Our intreprid team continue their audio tours of Paris with a look at the neighbourhood around the Marais. They start the walk at the Centre Culturel Suédois, 11, rue Payenne, F-75003 Paris. Before passing by the Carnavalet museum on rue Francs Bourgeois They then walk along rue Francs Bourgeois to the Credit Municipal at number 55 this is the Pawn Shop known affectionately as "ma tante", my aunt. It has an interesting history and it's even mentioned in Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell "Now listen. We must start by pawning our overcoats. First go back to your room and fetch your overcoat, then come back here and fetch mine, and smuggle it out under cover of yours. Take them to the pawnshop in the rue des Francs Bourgeois. You ought to get twenty francs for the two, with luck." From there they walk along rue Vielle du Temple which is close to the site where the knights Templars had their headquarters back in the 13th Century. Finally, they reach the charming Pick Clops cafe at 16 rue Vieille du Temple, 75004 Paris before facing their own 'rain' of terror to be continued....... |
